Two weeks ago, with additional information to hand, Iain White (Club Secretary) and Andy Park (Balmore Finance Co-ordinator) carried out a detailed financial modelling exercise. Here are the main conclusions and points to note:
1. As requested, members are continuing to pay subscriptions and fees. Thank you. This allows the club to continue paying staff wages and operating expenses e.g. utilities, insurance, essential materials such as fuel etc. The result will be Balmore golf course in Championship condition when play resumes.
2. Although visiting parties have not been able to use our facilities, most have deferred rather than cancelled bookings. We hope to secure a significant proportion of this year’s forecasted revenue.
3. We are eligible for the Scottish Government’s £25,000 one-off grant to help golf clubs forced into temporary closure. We have applied for the money and hope to learn if it has been awarded in the next couple of weeks.
4. The clubhouse is one of our most valued resources, however it is relatively expensive to operate. Closing it during the lockdown has been net positive.
